A little about me... My husband and I are originally from Michigan and have lived in Charlotte for 16 years. I have one brother who lives in San Diego and my parents live in Michigan & Florida. I have been married to David for 15 years, and have 3 children at MICS, Jack (7th), Alexandra (5th) and Walker (3rd). We just recently got a 3 year-old dog named Shadow- she is a sweetie!
I remember back when I was in first grade and I loved my teacher! I lost my first tooth, but swallowed it! I also remember being scared to ride the bus with a friend because I was a "walker" (who walked to/from school.) I used to play "school" with my brother where I was always the teacher (which he did not like.) When I was older, I volunteered at our church to teach Sunday School, and that is when I realized my love of teaching and decided to pursue it as a career.
I earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University. I have taught 5th grade, tutored all ages, preschool, was a Teacher Assistant in 3rd, and teach 1st grade. My family has been with MICS from the first day the doors were open, and absolutely love our school. I am so excited to be able to get to know your child and to help them spread their wings and learn to fly! I can’t wait for our fun adventures ahead in first grade!
A few notes...I will do my best to respond to emails, but rarely have time during the day to check emails, due to limited lunch time, planning meetings every day or because I'm teaching your kiddos! I usually check email before school, and will respond within 24 hours. If you have a transportation change, please alert the office. The weekends are personal time with my family, so I will respond to emails sent over the weekend on Monday.

Kids A-Z (formally called RAZ kids): Login: johnstonsclass https://www.raz-kids.com/ RAZ kids/Kids A-Z- Your child has the option to read on their current reading level on RAZ kids/Kids A-Z. They have updated the app, and it's now called Kids A-Z, and you can download it on most devices. Please do not let your child listen or click on the ear icon, they need to read it by themselves, and take the quiz on their own. The levels do not correspond exactly to our Guided Reading Levels, so please have your child progress through the levels and let me know if they completed their level, so I can move them up.
